Villa Sarchí
Villa Sarchí is Costa Rica's own Bourbon dwarf — the third of the great compact Bourbon mutations alongside Caturra and Pacas, discovered in the West Valley town of Sarchí. It adapted beautifully to Costa Rica's high volcanic valleys and strong winds.
The variety rewards altitude with a distinctly elegant cup — fine acidity over deep cane sweetness — and its lineage carries global significance: crossed with Timor Hybrid, it produced Sarchimor, the parent line of rust-resistant varieties (including Marsellesa and Parainema) planted across the coffee world.

Villa Sarchí — frequently asked questions
What is Villa Sarchí's role in modern breeding?
It is the Bourbon parent of Sarchimor (Villa Sarchí × Timor Hybrid), the resistance lineage behind widely planted varieties like Marsellesa, Parainema, IAPAR 59, and Obatá.
Where does Villa Sarchí grow best?
High, windy Costa Rican valleys — especially its native West Valley — where its compact frame resists wind damage and altitude sharpens its elegant acidity.
Is Villa Sarchí related to Caturra?
They are parallel discoveries: independent single-gene dwarf mutations of Bourbon, found in different countries. Their cups are close cousins; Villa Sarchí often reads slightly more floral.
