Fairtrade Certification

The certification system guaranteeing cooperative-organized farmers a minimum price floor (insurance against C-market collapse) plus a fixed social premium per pound, invested by democratic vote in community projects — schools, clinics, processing equipment. Certification audits cooperative governance and trading terms rather than cup quality. Criticisms note limited farm-level income effects and certification costs; supporters credit the floor's protection in crash years. Fairtrade coffee often pairs with organic certification for compounded premiums.
