Chikmagalur Coffee
Legend places Indian coffee's origin here: the saint Baba Budan planting seven smuggled Yemeni beans in these hills in the 17th century. Chikmagalur's high Western Ghats valleys remain Karnataka's Arabica heart, their estates draped over some of India's most scenic coffee country.
The district's established estates — several in the same families for over a century — increasingly produce named micro-lots, honeys, and naturals for India's booming domestic specialty scene as well as traditional European export.
