Amazonas (Rodríguez de Mendoza) Coffee
In the cloud forests of Peru's Amazonas department, the Rodríguez de Mendoza and Utcubamba valleys grow coffee amid orchids and remnant montane jungle near the pre-Inca fortress of Kuélap. Persistent mists and cool humidity create one of Peru's most delicate profiles.
Smallholder cooperatives here were among Peru's earliest organic exporters, and the region's floral, honeyed washed lots increasingly appear as named micro-lots rather than disappearing into national blends.
