Boquete Coffee
Boquete, a highland valley beneath Volcán Barú on Panama's western spine, rewrote specialty coffee history in 2004 when Hacienda La Esmeralda entered a forgotten Ethiopian-descended variety — Geisha — into the Best of Panama competition. Its explosive florals stunned judges and launched the ultra-premium micro-lot era.
The valley's cool bajareque mists, volcanic soils, and meticulous estates now produce the world's most valuable coffees, with Best of Panama auction lots repeatedly setting records above $10,000 per kilogram. Beyond Geisha, Boquete's classic varieties deliver refined, under-priced excellence.

Boquete — frequently asked questions
Why is Panama Geisha so expensive?
Tiny supply of a variety whose floral, tea-like cup is unlike anything else, plus auction dynamics among global buyers competing for prestige lots from named Boquete estates.
What is the bajareque?
The fine wind-blown mist that drifts over Boquete in the dry season — moderating temperature and stretching cherry maturation on the valley's Geisha farms.
